Synopses of Courses - Certificate Program in Stage Sets and Costume Design

An Advanced Exercise in Clothing Design

The goal of the course is to draw the attention of the students to the concepts of image development in the theater and how these concepts are realized in a play and to analyze theatrical images from contemporary plays. Together with the students we research theatrical images from the Elizabethan canon, learning through this study, the manners, aesthetics and “body language” of that time.
Required Course
Full year course

The student will observe from this study how visual images express the dramatic ideas of the play, which then are dramatized by the actors. During the course we will attempt to develop a modern design concept that will interpret and portray the characters of the Elizabethan dramas.

The History of Dress

Dress is a language that we “speak” from early childhood, before we even learn to speak our mother tongue. We will demonstrate this by making a chronological journey through cultural history, beginning with prehistoric times until today. In order to succeed in our “venture”, students will have to perform various tasks.
Required Course
Full year course

The purpose of these “ tasks” is not to make life difficult, on the contrary, they are for preparing students for the coming courses in costume design that they will take during the third year of the course. When students reach the third year and are faced with a costume design project they will have the appropriate tools to execute the project successfully.
